I love this album.Jackie McLean Jackie’s Pal PrestigeOriginally it was released in 1956. As you can see the picture on the jacket, McLean featured Bill Hardman, old time friend trumpeter. They both play well in this album.I can say that there is no new approach like McLean was doing on Blue Note. But I love this…
I got a message from one of my friends who is a Jazz collector saying,Takashi, you know Victor music Riverside and Prestige reissues? VIJ sounds far much better than SMJ. Did you know that?I say “WHAT!?” that is impossible!I thought SMJ and VIJ sounds are just identical. But, since I had this info, I HAD TO…
While I am featuring this album, Thelonious Monk – Thelonious Himself, I just want to talk about the greatness of Jazz, or what makes Jazz musicians great.I love Monk, and among his albums, this Thelonious Himself is one of the best. The main reason is that when you listen to this album from the start…
Art Blakey has many underrated albums… I talked about them from time to time. This time, I want to feature this one,Art Blakey Quartet A Jazz Massage on ImpulseI love this album and the members present are also unique.-McCoy Tyner on piano-Art Davis on bass-Sonny Stitt on saxophoneVery classy right? All instruments are played well and well…
I got a bunch of VIJJ Reissue series titles by Victor Music Japan recently. They are 69 titles!! Wow…And I rediscovered the greatness and uniqueness of this VIJJ.Victor music Japan is known for reissuing Prestige and Riverside in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Those are…PJ Series in the early 70’s, SMJ Series in the…
Peculiar RVG pressings again…this time, 2 of them!Sonny Stitt Bud Powell Prestige PRLP 7024Esquire UK and Barclay France released the same album in the 60’s with the same matrix,PRLP 7024 RVG Hand Etched!Matrix is the exact same. That means they used the same metal stamper to press these copies. That is a fact.BUT!What happened to…
Regarding unused, and un-played Japan pressed Blue Note copies, have seen that here in the US with buyers who purchased Classic Records Re-Issues of Jazz, classical, rock, pop titles. Classic Records pressed Kind of Blue at least 4 times, with various vinyl formulations, some at 33, some at 45 RPM.
When Classic Records were pressed in the mid 1900s up through the early 2000s (by RTI in CA), many collectors I know would buy a “six pack” (6 copies) of the titles they really liked and would play a lot, since everyone knew there would be one pressing run and likely not another, so grab them while you can. Once the inventory was sold off that was it.
Today with the vinyl resurgence and so many younger people buying vinyl, some of the prices on the Classic Records 180 and 200 gram pressings have sky rocketed. As an example, Classic pressed the Led Zeppelin Box set all at 45 RPM on 200 Gram virgin vinyl. Average selling price for the box set is 6K USD, and a sealed copy recently sold for 25K USD.

Thanks for your comment! Really? I can not believe that…As I see the fats that you pointed out, I have a mixed feeling, happy to see young generations discovering the greatness of analog recording, at the same time, worried that the price is going up unreasonably high….
